Not usually a fan of birds flying passed me but I liked this one since the falcon was looking back at me

    shot with the D5 and 500PF + TC14E-III f/8 IS 3200 at 1/2000sec hand held and processed with C1P

I got to try the 500PF a bit more in the past couple of days. I like this lens a lot, but it is pretty much useless for BIF when used with the 1.4X extender on my D850, the AF hunts big time and struggles to lock on the subject even against a simple BG. not for flight... With the D5 it still hunts a bit compared to my 600 f/4 plus the same TC but perfectly usable for most cases (except for bird coming at you against a varied BG). Can't ask more from f/8

    hope you like it

This is very nice especially at iso 3200. I really like the fact that we can see all of the back of the bird and a great head turn. On my monitor the near side feather next to the body of the bird is brown which is slightly distracting .

Having waited for many moons for a PF 500 ,it has now finally arrived. 1of 6 to reach this country since Xmas I'm told. So while waiting I have been interested in your remarks about the PF problems at 700mm with the D850. You have answered the problem and proved the D5 plus 500 plus 1.4 .can do the job in imperfect light.

Its hard to see how much better the 850 could be even without the' hunting' problem than this .

Yet another Hazeghi classic. Love that look back, beautiful top view and dreamy BG. TFS

Look back makes it work and nice to see the whole top view...
I am waiting for the 500, but it might be years!
I wonder if you could get the same shot with the D500 and no extender?

Thanks Ian, Dave Salem and I were talking about Dave's Australia trip and his stay with you, I gotta come over there some time :)

overall the D850 does well with the bare lens, but for something like the peregrines I'd pick D5 any day

Hi Dan, my friend Glenn had his 500PF on the D500, I tried for a few minutes and it was struggling with the TC as well, I think with the bare lens you should be able to pull off some nice frames with it.

Great dorsal view. Like the look back and that blue water background.

Nice seeing you and Danya Sunday! To bad the peregrines didn't do much and I think this was the only pass of the morning so I'm glad you got it. Looks great and the look-back saved the shot. Nice details too. Just got my PF as you know and so far I really like it and the weight of this thing is "stupid".
I feel like I have been running in the sand with ankle weights on my while life shooting with these big 500-600 lenses and now with this PF it so light that I can "literally" track a flying bird with one hand!! Gonna start shooting from the hip pretty soonCant wait until the action starts to really work out this lens. See ya soon!

Wish I could have been there with you guys! I'm thinking about picking up a 500 PF since you both have such great things to say about it. Tough day of shooting from what I hear, but it looks like you made the most of it.
