Nice low angle with some nice light. Like the pose. The square crop works very well.

Very nice detail, although I might back off on the sharpening just a little. I do wish for a bit more eye contact.

Looks good with the original DO and 2X. The single leg is fun, but I the lack of eye contact is a struggle for me. The background reed/stalk is also a bit distracting. If you do back off the sharpening, I wouldn't go too far. It look pretty good given your gear and settings. It's never gonna look as nice as a naked 600 on a DX, for example, and you're going to have to push the file around more than if it came from that combo.

Thanks to all for comments and suggestions. They are as always greatly appreciated. This image is close to right off the sensor. It has sharpening set at 2 in DPP. It was then smart sharpened for web presentation at 100, .5 (didn't even notice a difference). I generally don't like to over sharpen and that is especially true for this species with all those fine hairs around the eye. It tends to look pixelated. This glass combo can get quite sharp images but only when stopped down (it is what it is). The AF accuracy of the R however is very good even with this combo due to the faster RF interface, digic 8 processor and DPAF technology. Yes, Dorian, your 600 resolves much better.
