Bee Hummingbird

Recently returned from Cuba (my home country) where I spent 5 days chasing the endemic species. I got tons of photos to share of not often seen species. I will start with the smallest bird in the world the Bee Hummingbird.

This was taken with my backup camera the D610, on the very first day my main body the D750 gave me an error and something in the shutter got messed up.

This shot was taken in the a backyard of a house where both endemics hummingbirds are fed, The Bee and Cuban Emerald. The light and location wasn't the best but I did what I could without the use of flash and going as natural as it gets. I did brighten up the image a bit in PP and reduce the noise in the BG.

Wonderfull capture of this colorful beauty, Raybel. Lovely background as well. I agree with Paul's suggestion of lowering the highlights on the flower buds.

Yeah! it was in a shaded area and I had to lower the shutter, the D610 noise is really bad above 1K ISO, no other option :(. But it worked out better that I thought at that low shutter speed. No way to freeze the wings but the bird when it stays stills you can get sharp photos.

The SS speed looks fine, blurred wings don't bother me at all with Hummers.
I am surprised by your D610 comment. I think the D610 is way better with noise than
the D500 is..

Yes, it would be better than the D500 which is what my friend uses and we have seen side by side the difference. But the D750 has much cleaner ISO, I realized it now when working on the images from the trip how much better the D750 is compare to the D610 with noise. Images I would have never really noticed noise with the D750, with the D610 is all over.

Wow. I think that's the best shot I've seen of this tiny creature. Surprisingly clean feather detail at that SS. I felt lucky just to get a distant record shot of this endemic on my trip a few years back.

I'm usually not a fan of lots of wing blur in hummer shots, but this is a really good image made even better by the endemic circumstances and size of the target. The bird is so sharp that the body details overcome the very blurred wings. Color is magnificent! So is BG....
