Taken on the Daintree River in FNQ. I love the BG on this pic.
    Canon 1 DX 600mm and 1.4x
1/3200 ( hoping for a takeoff shot but he flew away from me) F 7.1 ISO 1000
Crop to 65% FF. Cloned out a catchlight and I did not sharpen the JPEG as the feathers give the impression of being slightly oversharpened as presented.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,

Nice one Gail, and typical tail movement, up in this instant. This looks like an immature with the flecking on the breast and greenish wings. I don't know if it is the Australian light or bird feathers here but they often have an almost prismatic quality that makes them look sharp.

Nice perch and pose. Bill on this kingfisher is pretty big. The background is great. Never heard of one before.

Nice one Gail...looks like you had a great time up there. Love the perch, HA and BG. The head/bill looks a little soft to me.

First i love the colors and the complimentary BG. Sharpness throughout ( not sure where"softness" is seen via above comment?"). I like the alert pose, stark yet wee green on the perch is also very nice. A very wonderful image , congrats.

Looks like the Boatman was accommodating with your getting the great background! Very nice, the soft colors look like a young male. The detail of the white lines under the eye is fabulous.
