Great shooting angle, pose, sharpness, exposure.
Like the angle of the water line on the beach in the frame. Adds to the sense of motion, line of direction.

Calling pose and raised crest look great, as does low angle. Whole frame looks cold/blue, so maybe war it up a bit. There is also something going on with the raised foot; it has some funny sort of outline around the toes.

Was this bird photographed recently? Seems like worn plumage like you would see in the fall or early winter (for adult individuals). Very neat pose here!!

Ha! Not recent, but still this time of year (roughly). This fella tricked me with its seemingly worn plumage

It is most likely a very worn juvenile that will not molt into breeding plumage till at least next year. Oddly plumaged shorebirds in late spring are often one or two year old birds that fit into that category.
