I found a pair of hooded plovers while walking a beach near the Bay of Fires In Tasmania. It was a lucky find because we had just stopped here to stretch our legs and enjoy the view.
The population is small but stable in Tasmania but critically endangered in other parts of Australia. The male and female look the same.

    Gail:

A lovely image, subject, low angle, color harmony between he vegetation and the birds reds, OOF background.

I might tone down the whites on the breast a few points, not blow out as are of course, but perhaps retrieve a bit more detail there.

Do you always carry your 600 when stretching your legs?

    Cheers

Great looking plover Gail, i love the slight head turn and the habitat. Lovely ring eye along with two toned beak. Might clone the dark spot bottom below feet, agree to tone down breast whites as Randy suggested. Nice milky BG too! Well done.

Here is a redo with suggestions. I did tone down the breast but it doesn't really show on the JPEG

Another great capture Gail, and I prefer the repost. Tasmania is always a treat when we go...did you spot the Forty spotted Pardalote at Inala?

Neat looking plover. The low angle and the look back pose are nice. Details look very good.

Having just got back on the mainland from Tasmania an hour ago, the first thing I see is a plump little 'hooded' perfectly portrayed in the Bay of fires. Well done for getting so close .That light lets you see right into her [I think] eyes. Looking forward to more from your trip down here!

Yes, I saw several but did not get great shots. We really enjoyed Inala. Cat was indeed a great guide.

Very nice as noted above. Are you sure that it is not a Laughing Gull X Piping Plover hybrid?
