Default Great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus)

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Tripod, Canon 5D IV Canon 500mm f4L IS II + 2xTC III
    Auto ISO 1250 (-0.67) 1/2500 sec f8
    ACR + PSCC

Having a really tough time with the grebes, I have my eye on a few courting couples that will hopefully make a nest soon and if they do I will hopefully get them in better light. Currently all the action is in the most unfavourably illuminated areas and or too distant for optimal quality.

I think Jon going to ISO2500 offering a much faster SS would have helped. I like it all, especially the low POV, it just lacks that crucial sharpness IMHO.

The action and splashing water are nice. The point of view is right on. It is soft though. Good luck and keep on trying.

Splash is great. I agree with the other comments, but if you are not out there shooting and trying
you will never get the shot. This is for fun after all....

As a rather famous hockey player was fond of saying, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take!

Thanks everyone, yes Dan you’re absolutely right, photographing wildlife is and should be fun. I enjoyed it even though I got frustrated with the light and the fact that the grebes weren’t in the “right” place.
