Nice detail on the face of the adult.. and nice habitat photo.
A looser view would look good to me.

Agree about the tightness. You do have a very nice view of the adult and with some sweet light.

Great look at this guy, but I agree he/she is too tight in the frame. It also looks like a lot of NR has been applied as the entire image had been overly smoothed. The whites in particular look a bit plastic.

There was no NR on whites. Thanks as always for comments and suggestions.
    Peace,
    David

I have to agree tight in the frame for me but I love the clear uncluttered view you have got. The exposure is pretty good, I wonder what the issue is with the detail, it seems good in part but not so good in others. Have you micro-adjusted your lenses?

Once again, thanks to all for your eagle eyes, comments and learnings. Special thanks to Arash and Jonathan for offering at times to look at the raw. First, rest assured there is nothing wrong with the EOS R. It is my lack of experience and attention to how to best process the new R files. I have used many settings from Arash's excellent guide based on 5dMKIV. However, I have found this sensor's output is not the same as 5DMKIV. I said there was no NR meaning using NI. There is a default setting in DPP. That was the culprit of smoothing out the lighter tones. I didn't completely reprocess just quickly tried backing off those (lum 3, ch 4) default settings to 0 to show result. This image does not have the usual sharpening. The other difference is they come off the sensor sharper than 5dMKIV. So I have set that to 2 instead of 3(for 5dMKIV) in DPP.

As a hobbyist photographer, I frequently rely on excellent guides like Arash and Artie's for a new camera. I don't have that luxury for this one. After 6 months, I am comfortable in the field but need to research and find the best process/workflow for this rig.

Much better now. The loss of detail was from aggressive NR that was applied by default

Absolutely correct summary. Those defaults are now at 0.
BTW, the guides are a huge help even if they are not for specific new camera.
    Peace,
    David
