Simply beautiful canvas overall. The whole image looks properly painterly to me. The HA is perfect for both, given interaction. I don't even miss catch light as these birds are clearly animated. TFS

Very nice interaction. Like the dark water and overall mood of this one.

One of my favorite bird species! I tried to get a shot of a pair in display yesterday but failed. You captured a beautiful interaction here David!
I suspect that you intentionally have gone for a more artistic feel to the shot and in that case I think it works nicely. The dark water and the pattern made of the reflected trees is beautfiul. I think the blacks on the bird are too dark, but that might have been your intention to get the dark feel. Lower shooting angle might have made this even better

Hi David, beautiful birds, love the interaction. Artistic looking image, I am mixed on my feelings. Thank you for sharing.

    David:

Very nice presentation. As a loon photographer, I appreciate the value of maintaining the mood/ambiance of the scene. This is the world these birds live in, and the image communicates that well.

Nice lighting. What time of day was this taken?

    Cheers

    David,

I am at somewhat of a loss for words here ... I very much like the scene and the mood but with the front bird facing almost completely away from us this is an insta-delete for me. Yet everyone above likes it. But maybe for Joe ... Joe, why your mixed feelings?

    with love, artie
