Lots of kookaburras at Oxley Creek Common recently. Managed to get this one to "look into my eyes" (not overly happy with the BG, even after cloning distractions out)

Nice head on perspective. Eyes are nice and sharp. Details look good. Background is what it is.

Getting the focus exactly on the eyes in a head-on shot is tough, but you absolutely nailed the focus on this once! The look on his face and the details on the raised crest are outstanding. Great decision on f/8. The branches behind are a bit distracting. Beside those this is awesome, full of personality!

Hi Dorian. Thank you! I did clone more branches, but didn't go "all the way" here...lol. I may re-edit and see if i can improve the background. Cheers.

I think the exposure and details in the dark and light plumage is spot on! The DOF and focus is optimal and I like the background, it looks natural, ok you may have tidied up a bit but I am always a bit reticent about perfectly clear backgrounds, nature is not often perfectly clean and tidy.
Being quite persnickety now but you could dodge the lores on the right eye a little (?)

I was photographing some kookaburras yesterday and still almost didn't recognize this - a very different perspective! Great focus and details.

Thanks Jonathan: Good point regarding the lores...will have another look. Cheers.
Greg: Thank you...waited a while for the "look". There were quite a few kookaburras at this location on the day...many more than usual. Cheers.

Very unique perspective of this Kookaburra, eyes are nice and sharp with nice feather details, as far as the BG goes you could spend some time and clone everything out.
All in all a very cool image.
