The owls are still here, but not for long. We had some exceptionally high tides this Friday & Saturday but no luck, this was from several days ago.
Thanks to all who commented on my previous post.

Like the dive here, but as a standalone image I think you have better! Would go really well as part of a sequence, and from what I have seen you have the shots.

I love the broader approach - sharpness and posture all top-notch. Would love to have this in my collection!

Pretty sweet frame. Like how those wings just glow. The diving pose is nice.

The diving pose is nice, but this is another frame that doesn't connect with me. If the fore/background was cleaner and/or the bird bigger with more detail, then I think it would be more effective. As is, it appears mostly a opportunistic 'grab'-type shot.

Knowing how quick these turn and dive, you have to get full marks for getting this shot. I don't know how much of a crop this is but if the IQ stands it, I'd look at losing some off the top, maybe adding a little more below and going in a touch tighter

p.s. got a provisional pass to come over on Tuesday afternoon

Cool Jon, nice tracking. Just wish the face was more bright, well done for freezing this dive.

Hi Jon, very nice indeed, like the light coming through the feathers and being backlit, hence the face is in slight shadow, but this is a hard shot to pull off, so pour yourself a small Malt I think.

BTW why the 5D juxtapose to the 1DX, unless for cropping?

Thanks very much everyone for your comments and interest.
Steve 5D IV because it offers a much bigger file:-
AF - I detect little/no difference between the 5D IV and 1DX against backgrounds like these it confounds me, both cameras obtain and lose focus with equal ease.
Noise - the 1DX is noticeably better - no contest.
Frames per second - well yes 1DX scores ......but I am getting results with 5D IV
Dynamic range 5D IV is slightly better than 1DX
    Battery life - 1DX better
Weight 1DX heavier but weight doesn't concern me.
    If I nail a shot will it require a crop? - 95% likely - so 5D IV.
