PEREGRINE--Macropus Tiercel
This muscled up little bullet was summoned by his aggressive girl friend who does not like anyone nearby but is ok if you keep walking as there is only one path river on one side and then cliffs where they nest .I just like the way he seems to be coming out of the clouds. Afternoon light in our spring not too bad so this was October in South Aust.about 5.00pm.These birds are not migratory here and tend to stay put if the seasons are reasonable.

Perfect cloud and blue sky BG, perfect overhead underside view with perfect eye contact. Love the details. TFS

What a fantastic stare and angle on this bird. Not a shot I've seen too often with all the underside in view. A couple of technical nits for me is the banding in the whites, although I appreciate this may be down to either my monitor or compression, but the lower wing appears to have some noise in it compared to the raised wing.
However, this is a seriously good shot

Fabulous.....Perfect BG for the perfect bird. I like the flight pose, HA and detail you captured. Yes I can see what Mike is seeing, mainly on the primaries. Well done.

Great pose on the bird. Clouds give the image some very nice depth.

Hi Ian,This is hands down the best Peregrine image you have ever posted, actually one of the best images you have ever posted!! What a beautiful bird. Is the the tiercel from the houseboat eyrie? He sure looks gorgeous!! This image has about everything you could ask for. Great HA and awesome details along with a perfect light angle. He is so well lit and look at that feather pattern!I did a few things to this one and I would love to have the RAW of this one to play with a bit more, and a bit more serious. First off this one just screams vertical to me because of the wing position. Once I cropped the way I liked I obviously cloned in some more clouds to balance out the white and blue. Next I always like to clean up the catchlight in the eye if it isn't clean, makes it appear sharper to the eye, and then I selectively reduced the noise in the leading wing primaries. A touch more sharpening to only the head and it looked good enough for the wall!!Killer frame old man

Super shot Ian. Kudos. Stare, spread wings, details, the clouds are all top notch. I have seen a crap ton of Peregrine shots over the years but never one like this so hat is way off to you.

Thanks everyone.I tried it vertical but wasn't sure about adding in the sky so left it alone. This pair was further down the River Murray than we were David about 50 miles or so, but there are a few pairs around as the cliffs are all the way down on the big bends as you saw. And lots of parrots which they seem to pick off at will.

I thought I was going to have this from the thumbnail, but I was proven totally wrong. An overhead shot that actually works. Color, pose, eye contact etc are all spot on.
I like the crop you present. David's vertical looks great but I am not a fan of adding elements to a frame. Go with what was on the sensor.....

Wonderful, powerful, dynamic posture, the bird just oozes confidence! Image seems slightly oversharpened on my monitor? Banding in the whites already mentioned. Very cool image
