    Default Canvasback

Here is an adult male Canvasback photographed this week. This is a species that I have wanted to photograph for a long time and finally got my chance in gorgeous evening light. I will post a flight shot of one as well but won't yet because Jim just posted a Canvasback in flight.

Nikon D850 and Nikon 600 F4 E, ISO 640, F5.6, SS 1/4000. I kept the shutter speed high to get perfect exposure on the whites of the bird and was switching from flight shots to shots of them on the water. Photographed using a ground pod and while lying down on rocks at the waters edge. Had my elbow and knee pads and water proof gear. Have to get wet to get the proper angle.

    Beautifully captured.

I like the water colors and the red eye.

I think this is perfect in every department. Well done for getting down to ground level, it makes such a difference to a floating bird image if the surrounding environment allows you to get that low.

WOW Isaac! I had to log in (from airport where our flight was delayed by 11 hours...) to say that this is absolutely beautiful. From the IQ to the low POV to the gorgeous light etc etc A+++ from me,

Thanks everyone. I am glad you like it. The D850 has insane image quality. Just off the charts good. When you are somewhat close and shooting dead on the sun angle the results are just fantastic.

I can't wait for the day to photograph a Canvasback. My type of low angle, and overall IQ and processing look great.
