Default Evening Grosbeak On Top of Pine

This is how I started 2019 - image created on January 1st. About 35-40 of these guys frequented a feeder on public land, but it was kinda bad for photography (as far as perches). On a few occasions I gathered up some perches and setup another (better) feeder close by. It took some time, but about half the flock took to my feeder and perches. I am glad I did, as a few weeks later they had all but moved on. The snow on the perch was sprinkled there by myself, to add some winter feel.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/8, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, FF, usual eye work. on second look I feel the blacks on the wings and tail could go a bit deeper.

Really nice DOF and that great grosbeak head turn...
I might try a vertical comp.

Looking good...Perfect BG to show off this lovely image. Fab detail, maybe a wee bit deeper on the blacks. The snow adds.

This is lovely Daniel. The soft diffuse light was perfect for the exposure on the whites and blacks. I am Ok with the blacks on the shoulder but agree with a bit more on the tail. very minor issue.
It is so easy to blow out the whites on these birds.
The addition of snow on the perch was a brilliant idea as it adds a lot to the image.
    Perfect HA,

Dan i have been staring at this and it is lovely. Such a soft clean BG, a simple perch, pose, HA, and the details are superb. I am glad you sprinkled the snow on top. What a sweet image, mighty fine work.

Excellent image Daniel. I like the pose, perch, BG, HA, IQ and composition.
