Default Black grouse ( Lyrurus tetrix)

I am on a hiding to nothing at present with these grouse. The light when or if it does arrive is very directional and I cannot reposition the car to a more favourable direction, nor can I get closer, they are a currently a minimum 25m distant, even the background is not very good, it is very contrasting and full of featrures. I have subdued it a little for presentation.
(I had considered using a hide or blind but this would only encourage others to do likewise resulting in disturbance).
I will try again toward the end of March when I think they will be a little more serious about lekking, it's mostly bluff at the moment so once it becomes more intense they may come a little closer. I think 1/2000 sec is borderline probably 1/2500 would be better, it is presenting something of a challenge - quite a few images but none terribly good so far.

All of the above Jonathan. I have a friend that has shot these and seems to be a difficult Quarry. Disturbs very easy and have to set up,hide or blind really in the dark. Good luck would like to see more.

Keep at it Jonathan, and kind and smart of you to plan your next outing so as others etc, may not disturb. What a very cool experience, here's fingers crossed for you.
