Taken at Kij Kij waterhole in the KTP. One of my favourite places in the world. On this trip absentmindedly shot many images as Jpegs before i realized and changed to RAW. This was taken as a JPEG

Splendid Kalahari lion, what a treat to get and in beautiful light as well! I would consider removing the grass stem and OOF vegetation behind the back leg. Lovely intense expression.

Nice lion in some nice light. Like the walking pose and the low angle. The composition works well.

Lovely light Basil and nice POV as well. A very handsome looking Lion indeed.

I think increasing the exp or opening up the mid tones will bring out those finer details as well reducing the reds slightly. The image appears slightly dark for my taste.

    Nice one.

    TFS !

Wonderful big Kalahari male here Basil, like the intent in his stride and angled front leading paw, nicely seen.

I recognise this old boy, might have some images of him myself.
Lovely light and stride here, Basil. Miss that place! We've all done the "accidental jpg" before...

Hi Basil, a lovely looking Lion in some great light, like the outstretched front leg.

Agree with Haseeb, the image does appear dark and if you use the current LR then be aware it does add (behind the scenes) more Contrast. As presented I don't think shooting JPERG has hurt the capture, all it has does is limited how much you can process. Saying that, the current JPEG from the EOS R are so close to the Raw, I think you would be hard pushed to not use the JPEG.

I think controlling some of the Contrast, opening up the Exp less than a third, it provides a bit more separation between subject & BKG and perhaps if acceptable, cleaning up a few highlights and or some small bits of debris, it will elevate the OP.

    Hello Basil,

Two weeks back I went to look for this male lion at Kij Kij and he wasn't there Instead I found three females sleeping in deep shade

This is just lovely, Basil. The light just takes it over the top. Whew, not bad at all for a jpg!

Nice touches from Steve who brings out even more detail. Eliminating those bits here and there gives the frame a cleaner, neater look.

I truly enjoyed viewing, Basil. Hope you post more images from this special place we both love so much.

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
