Taken at Bosque del Apache last Thanksgiving. Wish there were more room in front, but I don't think there's a way to add it in Lightroom.

    Canon 30D & 500 f4.5 (non-IS), ISO 400, f4.5 @ 1/3200, 0/3 EV

    Thanks for looking...

    Hi Steve.

Lovely feather detail in this image and good exposure. As you already mentioned more room in front would strengthen this image and my editing is done in CS3 where you can easily add canvas if necessary. I am not sure about lightroom but hopefully someone else can answer that question. A touch of S/H might open up the wing shadow a touch and a touch more USM. Many thanks for sharing.

EXP good as per JLM. The bird is angling slightly towards you; this is a plus. The position of the wings is far less than ideal. My two favorites are the wings full up or the wings in the full down stroke. If the wings had been fully up, there would be no shadow at all on the near wing. And if they had been in the full downstroke, then the near wing would have been perfecty lit. Some folks like this wing position but I do not get it.

How do yo get the good wing positions? Once the bird is in the ideal zone, take lots of pix!

No can do in LR. Here's a PS reedit with some additional sharpening and canvas. Also a little work on the eye.

Thank you all for your comments!

Doug... Repost is great IMO. Extra canvas really makes a difference here. I just haven't started working in PS yet.

Artie... This was my first trip to Bosque... I understand why this is a special place for you and so many others... I was thrilled to catch these beautiful birds in flight at all! I certainly understand personal preference and I'll never have to be concerned with this, but do you find BIF images with the wings either all the way up or all the way down sell better than others?

    Thank you all again!

Pretty good job of adding canvas by Mr. Brown.

Steve asked, "Do you find BIF images with the wings either all the way up or all the way down sell better than others?"

On average yes, but with so many bad image chosen for publication any wing position has the possibility of selling. All that I care about and have ever cared about is whether or not I like the image and whether or not others react favorably to it.

    Hi Steve,
I like Doug's re-work a lot. Adding canvas wass the way to go and the eye improvement definitely adds. As for wing position.........I know where you are coming from with just capturing the BIF..........that being said........I'm with Artie on the full up or down........don't know why.....maybe as you said.........just personal preference.
