    Default Scaup Blast off..

About the 10th frame shot with a new camera body, settings were just playing around.
    Should have had more SS.
The D500 is pretty fast and I can use it with short faster lens at my duck pond so I can get more light
which is a nemesis in the Pacific NW.
Image quality I have to say is not as good as my older full frame Nikon cameras but it is OK.
It has nice features, especially the iso button that you can change on the fly.

    Nikon D500, f5, 420mm (300 f2.8 w/ 1.4tc), iso640, 1/1000 sec.

I like the action, wave wall around the female and the different stages of take off positions. Hope you enjoy the D500.

Like the action, great you have three. Vignette is unusual for wildlife, I might pull it back a bit, or change the center, as I think it is too tight on the head of the background bird.

I have looked at this a few times and can't decide what I think about it!
The vignetting is unusual and works except for the RUC (too close to OOF bird).
I like the water droplets and the wave that engulfs the near duck.
I think my biggest problem with this is that the middle duck is not sharp. You needed more SS.
I always like to see something different, makes me think,
    Gail

Interesting frame indeed! The different stages of take off with a good head angle from all birds as well as a low shooting angle is all very nice. The light is also quite pleasing. The droplets in the background is the best for me.
I'm sorry to say that I don't like the vignette, it doesn't make sense to me to turn the focus to the center when the birds are heading to the right.
Also the water has some burnt out highlights and the whole image looks very contrasty, but you mention these problems yourself with the exposure. A nice image either way!

I love this. With the soft light it looks like a painting. May we assume that you added the vignetting?

Based on the bottom edge of the big bush it looks as if it needs some CCW rotation (that though the birds look fine ...)

Curious as to why it looks as if the male has a pretty item in its bill ...

    Thanks for the comments.
The vignette was just playing around, there were some things on the frame edge I did not like so I
used the vignette instead of cloning. I also think it looks like a duck stamp....
As I said, the SS was too slow. iso way too low.
Arthur, yes the Scaups were feeding right before blast-off,
not sure what it is eating.

Definitely different Dan! I like the three birds in their poses but not thrilled that the middle drake isn't sharp. The rest is pretty cool. Well done

Good idea and certainly worth trying again, with the above suggestions! I like it

Like everything about this one but the vignetting.
