Dottie and I went to Circle B Bar Reserve yesterday morning. When I was calling it quits, walking along the trail I came across this Limpkin off to the side of the trail. There were many people walking by so it was quite tame. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

I know the depth of field is falling off on the back but as close as I was (5.01m/16ft) the depth of field was about 1 inch.

Love the details on head and neck (especially the eye). You handled the "just starting to get harsh" light well. The BG is wonderful and complimentary. Wish for more room on top for better composition. TFS
Great portrait for the theme. Nice detail on the head. If the ISO was really 320, you could have pumped it up quite a bit for more DOF, but probably not enough to get the back in focus at that close distance.
Thanks everyone for viewing and commenting, very much appreciated. It was suggested that I could have gotten more depth of field by raising the aperture and ISO. I was so close to this bird it would not have mattered, what was important to me was the head, eye and bill. The out of focus back leads the eye to where I want you looking at the wonderful feathers of the head, the colors of the eye, feathers and bill. Also at a higher ISO the colors would start to muddy and the dynamic range would be less. Also this was a test for tomorrow. I will be going to Gatorland where I know I will be shooting tight on some subjects. I had find tuned the lens and camera and needed a close subject with minimum depth of field to test it. Thanks again everyone for your comments.

I like it as is. If you went to f/11 you would bring up lots of distracting BKGR detail ...
Get the eye sharp and forget about the rest. I have been doing that for three plus decades and so far it is working just fine.

Joe you are truly the master of the tight head type shots. Another beauty with perfect fine feather details. Agree that stopping down would have done very little here. Very ncie.

Yes the master other than Artie of course. That does not need to be said!
It always needs to be said. Especially now since I've been getting trashed on a regular basis with some of my SONY images :) See Joe's comment in Pane #11, below :) And the same goes for the Bosque Blurs. Krishna did not know what a blur was until he met me and purchased A Guide to Pleasng Blurs by yours truly and Denise Ippolito. See that here.
