Default African Fish Eagle at Sunset Dam, Kruger Park

I captured this image at the well-known Sunset Dam at the Lower Sabi rest camp in the Kruger National Park a few years ago. Every morning for three days in a row, just after sunrise, the eagle would drift in from the nearby Sabi River, make a few circuits and scatter all the other birds feeding in the dam. It would repeat this until it caught a fish. Image taken through the window of my car, with the lens resting on the window. Processed in LR and PS. Exposure compensation was to prevent the head from burning out the against the dark vegetation.

    Camera Model: NIKON D3S
    Date/Time: 2014:08:23 07:07:27
    Shutter speed: 1/3200 sec

Great banking dorsal view of this beauty, Chris. The light is exceptional and nice detail throughout.

The banking pose and wingspread are spectacular. I love the rich colours and warm light too. Good vertical comp.

Beautiful bird and a very nice pose. I love the varied background. Perfect world it would have been looking slightly towards us. I have seen many of these birds and they are strikingly white and colorful, especially in beautiful evening light. I do feel the image would be enhanced with the following adjustments. To me the image is too dark. If you were at ISO 1000 and had a shutter speed of 1/3200 there must have still been some nice and warm direct sun. For the repost I did the following. I did a small clockwise rotation as the shore line on bottom was not level. I also brightened the image, added a bit of warmth and applied some detail extractor on the bird to bring out a touch more of that beautiful details. Ran some noise reduction on the background because it looked a bit grainy on my screen. There are many ways to brighten and add warmth and all are equally effective really. Just to show about where I think the shot should be. All of my adjustments were global. If you have any questions let me know. My repost is on top.

Sensational. The repost is a bit better. Not sure that I have ever seen a more perfect banking pose ... Was this from a vertical original?

Thanks Artie, no it was cropped from a horizontal image. I should have mentioned that I corrected the horizon and extended the bottom for more space. Apologies for the oversight.

Late to the party, but what a stunning shot. Isaac's RP has helped. I love the rich colors and pose. Just beautiful. TFS
