This is one from a trip to the Isle of Mull last year. Captured early morning from a boat on a sea loch...I had just removed my 1.4 as 2 eagles were getting closer to a whole mackerel which had been thrown over for bait, I saw how far the fish was from the boat, so I took a chance and removed it. I did manage a few shots. This one was coming in from further away, then the other eagle flew directly towards it, I managed to capture this pose at that time. Now I was wishing I hadn't removed my 1.4, as the birds weren't as near as I would like them to have been, but I liked the pose...and a that talon

I really like the pose on the bird and that intense eagle stare. The bird looks very thin to me, both the colors and the depth. I would in whichever way you like the most add more blacks to the bird. If mine I would likely put the bird on its own layer and do a curves adjustment. I would put the black point dropper on the darkest part of the tail and then lower the opacity of the layer until it looked full and rich. I would also bump up the saturation of the bird a bit as well. Easy fixes for a very nice shot of this amazing raptor.

Hi Will, nice banking pose, but would have liked a bit more head separation, easier said than done.

You don't say, but some 'positive' EV would have helped based on the BKG. For me the blacks look on point judging by the dark/shadow vertical strip on the wing and at the back of the tail feathers. A 'alpha midtone' Channels HSL Curves adjustment will bring a bit more 'pop' to the subjects as you can really fine tune the adjustment.

You should try to shoot manual with Auto ISO, it works a treat with the 1DX's.

Nice action shot, I agree with adding a bit more black to the bird to make it pop a bit more. I would brighten the eye a bit more, it would catch the attention of the viewer even more.

Sharp with a neat pose. The face could stand being opened up a bit because as presented it is a bit lost in the base of the far wing.

Is this from a horizontal original?

Great banking pose. I'm envious, since on my Arctic trip I failed to get any but the most distant shots of this great raptor. Good comments above; in particular, separation of the head would have made a killer frame, but not within your power to arrange it.

Sorry about that Artie, I should have mentioned the crop. It wasn't from a horizontal, I came in from the left and right hand sides, so yes a fair sized crop. I reckon if I hadn't removed my 1.4, for me it would have been easier to process.
