    Default metallic starling on nest

Metallic starlings migrate to Far North Queensland to nest in their thousands/millions in the wet season. Easy to see and hear them, but their murmurations near the nesting trees are before or after light, and the trees in which they nest are normally too tall for acceptable photos. But if you are in Cairns in the wet season you could see a flock large enough to take 30 secs to pass you by. I happened on a tree in Mossman which has a few low nests, not many with decent distant backgrounds. It is quite shaded, so used fill flash. The benefit this brings for these birds is that you see the green and magenta coloring on the glossy feathers that would otherwise not show in the shade.

Beautiful bird, excellent techs and techniques, and a very nice image. The image design is great. You might try toning down the bright right side a bit.

Thanks Artie, Will look again the the right side to see if I can improve.
One correction to techs: ISO 1000. It was getting dark.

The flash has brought out the colours on the bird really well. I like the pose and the beautiful eye. Shame about the piece of wire in the branch but that can't be helped. Background is good bu agree with trying to tone down the bright patch.

Woah look at that red eye. Like how the bird has plenty of space to look into.
