    Default Black Rhino calf

Deep in the thick bush we came across Mum and a young calf, however Mum was so chilled she had laid down and gone to sleep (well dozing), whilst Jnr. here - kept guard. She was an experience Mum and so our presence did not in any way impact or cause distress, but Jnr decided he would stay awake and occasionally offered a light hearted posture or snort. We kept our presence to a minimum and shortly moved back around 100m plus, to ensure they were both happy as Mum knew were were there too, albeit that she was dozing.

Thanks to those who posted or viewed on the last posting.

Hi Steve - A very simple yet effective image. Agree with your self-critique for more room below. Techs are very unusual for you. Looks like the light was a bit strong but handled well.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Looks huge for a calf. Details are nice. 1/100 must be a typo did you mean 1/1000? The light looks really bright is my reasoning behind that.

Nice to have you back posting again Rachel.

00 must be a typo did you mean 1/1000?
    Correct John, thanks guys.

The light looks really bright is my reasoning behind that.
Guys the light was bright 'ish', but certainly not harsh and to see Black Rhino I'll shoot in any conditions.

How special this is, thank you for sharing, SteveI humbly suggest you back up this image ( and others you might have ) on a number of hard drives, not sure we'll be so lucky to see a rhino with horn in the future, be it in SA or elsewhere. And especially a black rhino!

Love the detail you captured here and especially on the face, I gather you were fairly close to this young chap who came to investigate? Their eye sight is really poor but they have an amazing sense of smell and hearing is so good.

I like the calm, almost subdued pose here. As well as those wrinkles... Indeed, a tad more below would have been ideal - but not a good idea to start the engine of a noisy game vehicle and try move around when close to this species...

Lovely colours and textures and I like the inclusion of vegetation - black rhino are browsers and this is their habitat

I truly enjoyed viewing, many thanks again Steve

    Warmest regards,
