Here is another shot of the day old loon chicks. When there are small, both chicks may ride on an adults backat the same time. The chicks grow very quickly and by the time they are about 5 days old, the chicks ride solo. After 10-14 days, it is unusual to see a chick on the back.

Canon 1DMII with 300mm f/2.8, ISO 400, 1/500 @f/10, handheld, from pontoon boat. Cloned out a few cottonwood puffs on the water.

You are killing me with these images Cheryl !!!! Love the fine detail and interacting youngsters and can't ask for better shadow detail. White on the breast is at the ragged edge but I feel is not detracting from the image at all. Love this image !!!

As Alfred mentions, the chicks interaction really makes the picture. Thanks for sharing it!!!

Hope I can see them at some time in the future!

The interaction between the chicks makes this one for me. Great exposure control and details.

    Hi Cheryl,
Great interaction...........I would be tempted to crop down a bit for more of a pano.........emphasizing the chick interaction even more. You can easily do this with a browser crop.........just scroll the side bar down until you get something you like better. I tried and about 1/2 of the water above moms head does the trick for me.......but it may be tight for you. Worth exploring. Still love it as presented!
