I managed to capture this Reindeer on Cairngorm mountain on a bleak day. No snow on the mountain as yet, but I feel it is on its way. I hope so, I would love to photograph these lovely deer in the snow.
Nice shot Will, a little easier said than done to nail the focus point bang on, I wonder where it was, I had a look in DPP but it didn't tell me but I suspect it wasn't on the eye or nose, the head looks just a little soft compared to other parts, that aside I like the image, the coat is well rendered and I like the sense of movement in the feet.
Sorry for coming in late, this is indeed a beautiful species not often seen here on BPN. Would be lovely to see a Reindeer in the snow, hope you get the opportunity to photograph one and share with us:)
I like the running pose here and composition works well. The leap is great, nice to see those front limbs off the ground. Habitat makes me think of the Siberian tundra. Overall colours look good but just check on a slight blue cast on the whites and hooves, also on that barren patch of wet ground (L corner bottom of the image).
Agree with Jon, head seems a tad softer than the body. But like he said, not always easy to nail the focus (especially when subject is running). I also think you could have upped the ISO a fraction for more SS
Hi Will, the white boat of the Reindeer works well against the habitat and provides standout. By the look of things the FP was more on the shoulder than the head, was this centre point, if so I feel you needed to have move the FP a couple of clicks to the left. DoF looks about right, although have you applied any NR?
Hope you can get back up there soon, looks like there is some snow on those hill now.
I like the moving pose and the look in your direction. I would love to see one standing still and upright hopefully you have one to show us.
Details look pretty good.
Nice William!
Thanks for the comments everyone...Yes the single focus point was on the shoulder of the deer..Hi Gabriela I did desaturate the blue on the whites quite excessively, the true colours are more of a greyish white, rather that pure white. I have a few more Dumay, hopefully post another soon. Hi Steve, yes I added a little NR to the BG.
Will
