    Default Indian Gaur

A Gaur enjoys some fresh leaves on a winter morning in Bandhavgarh NP, MP, India. Had a great trip with Haseeb in Dec (met for the first time, great guy indeed!) but not much of Tiger sightings sadly.

Hi Sanjeev, great to see you back & posting again.

Is the 200-400 a new acquisition or did you borrow it from Haseeb, it's a cracking bit of glass and offers such versatility, but not for the lighter frame, it is heavy when HH for long periods I think this image has certainly shown the clarity & sharpness you should be achieving with this kit and where some of the previous images were lacking, albeit you were close here. I like the diagonal line of the head, but I get the impression the mouth is slightly more angled to the viewer and so the shallow DoF is just starting to tail off there, but certainly on this one, not a deal breaker.

I'm currently away with the laptop so hard to say, but wonder if a tad more Sat and or darkening slightly that RHS would help???

All the best and hope the next few postings will be another step up.

    TFS
    Steve

Well it's been a great time for fine detail recently and this one has it too. A slightly unusual angle and it makes it very appealing. looking at the eye and forelocks i wonder if a little more contrast would have been good - say he who's never seen a gaur!

Welcome back SanjeevGlad you had an awesome trip and spent some time with Haseeb "out there in the field" I hope you both have lots of images to share!

This is a lovely portrait and BTW it qualifies for this month's Theme, so let me know if you would like me to change the Prefix for you.

I like the composition here... and agree with Jon, there's something very appealing about the HA of the subject...and the way he is looking up... it just works Wish you had a tad more DoF, but I guess you did not want to push ISO too much?

Lovely colours and the BG is superb. I like those tiny teeth too:) There's a small white speckle below the Gaur's chin - I know it's nitpicking ( sorry!) but I find it a little distracting

Overall a very attractive image and the content is great - thank you for sharing!

PS. If I am not mistaken, the Gaur was listed as vulnerable on the IUCN list - what is the situation now?

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Dear Gabriela, thanks for your kind words and comments. Please do add it to the theme. Appreciate it. Will look up IUCN list on Gaur status.

    Hi Sanjeev ...
A unusual portrait ...but i quite like it , with a bit of action .....
Color and tone looking very realistic i think under the given circumstances ....but think you can push things a bit more , locally !!!

You have a big gap in the histogram... to the left , and there is no profile embedded , Check your workflow

    TFS Andreas
