I took this shot with the lens I rented while visiting in Florida. Only a little cropping on this. I think the beak looks a bit to harsh. I tried using more contrast and adj as suggested in my previous post, but I suspect I over did it. oops.

I'd appreciate any comments you may have.
    thanks,
    Cheryl

Nice, sharp, good exp. I do see the halo around the bird though. I like the BG, but it is a mystery to me as to what it is? Water? If so, it looks tilted at a 45 degree angle. A tsunami wave:)? Dan Brown

This looks a tad under-exposed. I like the lighting and the subtle gradation of the colors, especially of the neck. The feathers look soft as they should be (I'm talking about the texture and not referring to the sharpness of the photo). I wish the dark areas could also show some details...probably hard to do. I don't find the beak looks particularly harsh, but I do see a bit of white fringe around it. I also think you don't need that much empty space at the top and on the left. Just my thoughts.

Very nice composition and colors. I do see the halo that Dan mentioned. Overall a good shot.
    Congrats,

You guys must have better monitors or eyesight than I do! lol.
Does the halo come during adjusting? Or because I adjusted from the jpeg shot instead of adjusting from the RAW?
    How do you prevent it?

    Thanks!

Hi Cheryl Halo can come if you used shadow/highlight for obtaining shadow detail (very common) Also sharpening can produce a halo

I think we always obtain the best results with an good exposure in soft light. Making the image look good does not take much but when we start doing heroic things to make it look good .... thats where the problems begin.

The bg does have a peculiar look, looks manmade? Did a small curves adj and worked on the eye. btw couldn't do much about the halo

Thanks, Al. The background has an odd look to it since I tilted the camera when taking the pic. I was thinking of Artie's comment of "think outside the box" at the time. While I like the bg, and I think the angle gives it a sense of motion which is lacking in the bird; tilted water just doesn't feel "natural". And from the comments here, I think the bg doesn't "feel" comfortable to other viewers either. We just instinctively know that water doesn't normally behave that way.

I like your adjustment very much. big improvement.

I love the detail you've captured and Al's repost improves the image. The bg makes me think rain.
