Hi Jon, excellent work and nice to see the folk in Wildlife pushing the boundaries of ISO and achieving a very reasonable image at 25.600k.
For me, the balance is about right in NR, it's not too hefty and looks more credible rather than a very smooth backdrop. Sometimes it can happen that way, but often NR is applied Auto with no thinking. Love the setting and the fact the bear is sitting looking out, posing the question to the viewer - what is he looking at?
Yes, I might clone the odd blemish and come in a fraction on the LHS so you lose the odd tips of branches coming in, but overall nice work. Personally I might have added a Darks/Shadows, Curve adjustment for the Bear, just to add a bit more form & shape.
(There has been some masking - is it obvious?)
Do you mean cloning, if so, I think it works.

No took a piece of canvas and blended it over another area.

Hi Jon ...you moved some canvas from left to right to cover some distractions .... or vice versa. In the FG

Hi Jon love to see you pushing things in terms of Iso !!!!!
Very well done i think in this case , personally i would not go that far for an important shot , for testing yes i would !!!
Lovely bear in a typical boreal forest setting .
I am with Steve about the tones , but would add depth across the image not only the bear ( maybe at lower opacity ) .
Looks well processed Jon , congrats TFS Andreas

Looks great for that high ISO. I like the environment that the bear is in. Shows the habitat very well. Composition is nice as well. Nice work.

Thanks very much everyone for your observations and comments, they are really appreciated. Just little things here and there keep helping, making different use of the various controls and often leaving many alone, I have found revisiting the older files quite beneficial.
Gabriela, you are quite right right to be surprised at the colours of the bear, they do vary quite considerably, I will see if I have a different, darker bear image somewhere.

Absolutely Jon, as we grow & learn it's quite surprising what we can extra back out of a file, nice one.

Nice relaxed pose, is this a Finnish bear? Looks really good for the ISO, if maybe a bit flat.

Greg it was indeed a Finnish bear, the mummy bear quite pale and she had two cubs one who was considerably darker than the other. A big male bear came round and he was darker too.
