John I like the open beak, two toned BG, composition and detail on the wing. This image isn't working for me though. I can't see the eye and the BG needs some NR.

Hi John, well timed to capture the yawn/calling pose, and I like the blues on him. I have to agree with Jim that not seeing the eye doesnt help, and yes to some NR on the BG.

Great detail on the open mouth. Lovely soft downy white feathers and the bird nicely positioned in the frame. As mentioned would love to see the eye.

I can totally see what you were going for with this. Unfortunately there are a few nits that stick out for me, mainly the lack of eye and the two branches. The lower one is quite out of focus, and the top branch seems to be coming out of the bird's body. If the light angle permitted it, you might have taken a few steps to the right so that the perch is more parallel to the back of the camera. At the angle you shot from, and at f/6.3, you aren't going to get much DOF on the stick, and the green lichens are worth keeping in focus. You did get the colours on the bird and the background bang on.

Tough lighting conditions for sure, and I agree with other comments re the eye and perch. Interesting the bird is banded.
