    Default Elk (Cervus canadensis)

Lousy light over here - so I went back to some older files and processed slightly differently compared to previously.

Hi Jon, I've viewed this many times and I find both colour & exposure to be off. The image is heavy (Black/Contrast, a bit sooty) and there is an abundance of Blue coming through. Both easily corrected, but perhaps the image was under exposed thus clouding your initial judgement? The Elk appears 'vertical' so I guess the river is visually running down . Have you enabled the Level in-camera, works well I find. Techs look OK, just depends on how much of the subject you want in focus, must have been close if you were using the 100-400, but I'm hoping with some basic tweaking more detail will, I'm sure shine through.

Steve you are right the colours are out. On reflection I must have looked at the coat and thought yup I like that and ignored everything else!
Here is a repost since discussion - much nearer the mark I think.
The level - there is one in the 5D IV but not 1DX or 5D II which I had with me.

This looks like a calf maybe only a year or two old. I like the setting and the pose. Nice and sharp and the details are pretty good.

Hi Jon a sweet looking calf in a lovely setting , like the look the calf gave you .
Nice detail and your RP is way better ..if not close to perfection on all counts , with little help from Steve ....LOL ... i guess !!!
I would go for slightly deeper tones in the elk ...
