You really impress me with your field craft, I guess your approach has to be gradual and you are spending considerable time gaining the buck's confidence allowing you to get so close. I note your ISO is twice the previous image and yet the noise is much less. The image is well exposed but I would like to see some expression of tone, it looks potentially very good but lacks tonality.

Hi John, really liking the POV, albeit that the BKG is a tad busy, nothing you could have done, it is what it is. Colour looks a bit too warm, likewise I would perhaps expected it to be a little 'less' bright, might drop the Exp in the Raw.

John, if you look at the rack at the base, the antlers appear sharper and with better 'clarity', the face looks crunchy and lacks the finer detail & form that you would expect, compared to the antlers at the base.

I'm assuming John that as this is FF you moved the FP to the right to be on the head/face, or did you focus then recompose? Is the with AI Servo or with One shot? What was the Case setting set to?

Taking your OP back into LR, reducing things like Contrast, Blacks, Clarity, Dehaze the detail starts to come through more John, just look at the antlers at the base. If folk are suggesting you ramp up areas like this I've suggested then it's hurting your images. Also have you calibrated your monitor?

Without knowing the full extent of how you Process John and what you do I can only assume, but as a starting point, I would temper some of the slider amounts.

    Hope this helps.

    TFS

Hi John great to see how relaxed your subjects are .... good fieldcraft is required i guess !!!
I like the relaxed pose .. almost dreamy stag ....
I do agree with Steve about the technical side , and i think his RP is quite a good starting point !

All the best for 2019 , TFS Andreas

    Hello John,

A very pretty image with lots to look at, framing is great and POV is superb. Subject seems a tad oversharpened to me. Good advice from Steve and his RP looks more natural in terms of colour. I really like the relaxed pose from the buck as well as the surrounding environment, well seen and taken
Hope to see more from you. Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year, and lots of photographic opportunities - keep up the good work

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
