    Default Merlin Lunch - graphic!

I headed to SoCal to visit wife's family for holidays, and I managed to sneak out for a bit of shooting. I ran into David Salem, and we enjoyed a pretty incredibly encounter with this female Merlin.
Perched on this snag, she was shortly pushed off by a female kestrel only to return 2 minutes later. I was in much better position for the second turn when she really started to rip the prey apart!

Also, for anyone interested, I always put together a small 'year in review' gallery (23 shots) on my website, so here's a link to that if anyone wants to check it out. I've posted almost all of the
shots here, but I think it's really cool to see them all in one place. It think it gives a nice window to how I see the avian spectrum - large, small, flying, sitting, drab, colorful, arctic, tropical, etc....

sweet shot Dorion, the famous merlin on one of the better perches down there with great BG . I like the prey too although some might find it a bit graphic (but that's nature) in an ideal world they prey would still be whole and recognizable but I take this one too. If mine I'd clone out the OOF end of the perch that's getting too close to the tail

Super fine Dorian, that new present suits you! Classic DS image, well done. Gail and I encountered the same on our trip with David, sure was exciting.

Just killer frame. Love the prey and the the fact you caught it being dismantled. Excellent background. Nice and sharp.

Super cool shot of this beautiful falcon. A Salem special for sure. Love that we get to see the prey item and the graphic nature of the shot. Details look nice and the background is great. But to me the whole shot has a very strong yellowish green cast and the colors are a bit thin as well. Did a quick repost where I added a bit of blacks by using the blackpoint dropper in curves on the darkest part of the tail, I reduced yellows in hue/saturation -20, added some contrast, did a highlight and shadows adjustment as well. I would go back to the full res file and fix the color issue. My edit was just to show about where it should go.

Very cool. The action with the dangling feet of the poor prey is very cool. Nice details and BG. Great stuff with the new camera. TFS
