    Default Northern Harrier (Male)

    Captured this image of a male Northern Harrier a couple of days ago while he and his mate were hunting for dinner in a nearby grassland. Not so lucky for the bird seen here in his talon seconds after the catch. He also managed to grab a twig in the process. C&C welcome.

    D500, Nikon 500mm f4/G + 1.4 TC, 1/2500s, f 8.0, ISO 1250, Gitzo, Wimberley Gimbal head.

    you got the illusive male and with prey! love the twig that's hanging from the vole, it's common for harriers to pick up weed and twigs as they dig in to scoop out the voles. It looks like you were far and the details are lacking a bit as a result but the male harrier is one of the most elusive raptors and not easy to get close to

    Wow, ambush and took the perch as well! Really sweet frame and nice bright gold eye. Id be happy wit this!

    Nice to see the prey. I like the setting this is where you usually see them.
