    Default Squabbling chicks!

    Attached Images Attached Images

Wishing all my BPN friends a very Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/ Festive Season and a Happy New Year!
Taken last June In BC, Canada.
I love this picture because the mom looks slightly harried at her squabbling chicks (A feeling all of us parents know well!)
Light was getting harsh and whites a bit bright but still one of my faves from 2018.
    Canon 1DX 600mm and 1.4 x
    ISO 640
    F 8 SS 1/2000
Crop to about 60% FF. No more room on right. Bluurred shoreline in BG.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,
    Gail

Looks good to me, love the interaction. Whites and blacks look good, pleasing composition, lovely background. Thank you for sharing, Gail.

A wonderful capture Gail, love the composition and the action between the siblings. I also like the colors and the blue of the water... Well done and a great memorable image for 2018. Merry Christmas

Loons and chicks make for such amazing pictures and this one is not exception. Very nice all around. I do wish for some more depth of field to get the full adult in sharp focus. Also the whites of the adult have a yellow/green cast due to the water that I would reduce. Happy holidays to you and your family Gail.

Nice work Gail. I love this image. I wouldn't have known you blurred the BG, and I'm usually good at spotting that type of stuff so nice job. Great shot here. Light does not look harsh to me.

Wonderful moment captured beautifully, Gail. Like the watchful parent, as the chicks play. Iridescence shows nicely. Merry Christmas.

This is great... I would think with some care you could make a crop of just the chicks that held up.
Catching them like this takes some talent, well done.

Gail, The breeding plumage is excellent, we don't see that here. Nice colors and comp.

Killer sharp on the adult head. And a wonderful image. Bad luck on the dark line behind the two little ones ...

Nice to have a good view of all three. Low angle and the light are pretty sweet.

love the chicks and the interaction but wish the dark patch in the BG wasn't running though the chicks. BG can also use some NR.

Great family frame, Gail! The little guys are so cute! Focus point looks like it was on the adult, but the little ones are nearly perfect as well. Light and low angle are great.

    Hi Dorian,
Thanks for your kind comment. Just for your info- the focus point was squarely on the left chick. As i fired off some shots, the parent swam in from the right and i prayed that the adult would be in focus! The chicks were so fuzzy and fluffy and I think that contributes to your feeling that the chicks are a bit soft.
Merry Xmas to you and yours, Gail

Hi Gail, great comp, and well timed to have captured the squabbling chicks, and both with their beaks open. Great low perspective, and gotta love the colour of the water BG.

Merry Christmas to you and Elwood, and all the best for 2019.

This one is beautiful Gail. Must have been a thrill to see the adult with chicks! Nice low POV and the details and exposure look great too. I can see why its one of your faves! Love this one. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too!
