Male Wood duck flap from a few days ago.

Yes , I know the blacks are blocked. I underexposed it.
I error on that side with Wood ducks, even underexposed, the whites are right on the edge.
Merry Christmas Dan! Lovely image.
Yes, wood ducks are an exposure nightmare!! My best images of them have been on cloudy days.
You have done well here. Did you try just selecting (and feathering the selection) the black areas and increasing the brightness or exposure slightly ? Might work.
I am OK with the OOF ducks on RHS but would evict the white OOF diagonal line- it grabs my eye.
Lovely pose and I like the BG,
Gail
I like the raised wings and the colors in the shot. As with your other shot, under exposing only works if you are able to bring it back up in post so you have proper exposure. Also you have a strong blue cast to the water and the shadowed areas of the bird due to the underexposure. Best to go into Hue/Saturation and select the blue channel. Lower the saturation of the blues until the blue until the whites of the belly are no longer blue. I would also do what Gail suggests re the blacks. Please include what camera you shot this with so we can make suggestions re lifting shadows. What you can do and how much you can push it changes from camera to camera and system to system.
Killer sharp with a killer wingstretch. And I love the birds in the BKGR.
with love, artie
