Default Sandhill Crane landing in crane pool

    Attached Images Attached Images

Taken at Bosque del Apache December 2018.
We had very unfavorable winds when at the crane pools but every once in a while a crane would fly in "the wrong way" ie against the wind and I was in the right place at the right time for this one.
    Canon 1 DX
    600mm and 1.4x
    ISO 1000 SS 1/2500 F 7.1
Small crop- 80% FF. Cloned out a loose feather floating in the air under right wing.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,
    Gail

Hey Gail, Funny I posted a somewhat similar landing pose with the similar crowd, only not at the crane pool. I really like the blurred cranes and the colorful BG, looks "impressionistic." Terrific wingspread and good eye contact. I like it, well done!

The light is very sweet. Also like the pano crop. The landing pose is nice. The cranes at the bottom give the image some depth.

Hi Gail, I like the outspread wings with this incoming pose - sharp, and the feather detail shows up nicely. It is amazing how the colours differ so much between your image and Ann's image above, taken from the same location. I do realise probably at different times and maybe a slightly different location at Bosque.

The out of focus cranes make the image, combined with that beautiful light. The landing bird being so in our face and sharp works perfectly with the blurred and soft distant cranes. Very nice.

Ditto all of the positives above. The only o-o-f crane head that bothers me is the brightest one right below the landing bird's right foot.

The light looks pretty good on this one Gail and I like the OOF birds in the BG, I normally don't. Sharp and well exposed too. Well done
