    Default Sandhill Crane Silhouette

    Attached Images Attached Images

This was my best attempt at a silhouette while at Bosque.
I do wish for a better near wing position but it was not to be...
    Canon 1 DX 600mm and 1.4x ISO 1000 F 5.6 SS 1/800
Straight out of the camera. No change in color balance or vibrance. Added a bit of orange in saturation slider.
Crop to pano. Deliberately underexposed and AWB set to cloudy to get the color out of sky and make bird black. Nothing added or cloned.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,
    Gail

Gail, this is great. I love how the bird is positioned in the light strip, between the dark clouds and dark mountains. Very well-balanced image. TFS

Love everything about this Gail. Just beautiful. And I really like how the curves of the birds back mimic the curves of the mountains below.

Excellent Silhouette...the mountain profile really makes it work, the wing position is inconsequential...
skimming the dark skies is nice.

Sharp with some nice color. A bit too close to the dark cloud. If you stare at these for a long time it is hard to tell which is the near wing and which is the far wing ...

Always love a good silhouette. Nice to see the bird between the mountains and the clouds.

    Hey Artie,
You are absolutely right! If I stare at it long enough It does look like the bird is flying away from me and that the short wing is the far wing as the bird flies away. Very cool optical illusion. We should get this to go viral like the "pink vs blue dress" debate last year on social media !!

So wonderful to view such a different variety of image. The deep colors and shapes are such a pleasure to look at and think about.

Hi Gail, excellent silhouette against a colourful sky. I like your choice of pano crop - it suits everything in the image.

I do the same settings as you have described for both sunrises and sunsets. Not much pp work after using those settings in camera.

Beautifully positioned silhouette capture, Gail. Either way, the wing orientation looks great to me.

Hello Gail, lovely indeed. Well done. We had very few colorful skies at Bosque more like a very few seconds in a few minutes when you try to capture the light as you have here, perfect settings to grab some magic. Wonderful!

Very nice Image. I like the colors

If the bird was a touch lower in the frame then it would have been much better.

This turned out great Gail! I think the placement of the bird in the scene is perfect. As good of a flight silhouette as you could of asked for. Well done
