As the bird is quite centered, the image too dark overall, and the image quality is excellent I came up with this repost in 11 seconds.

Hi Jon, Lovely lil bird and captured beautifully however, I can't warm my self to the image because of the abrupt cuts on the perch, they look unnatural to me. My suggestion is to find a perch you like without having to prune it... I do like the bits of lichen overall, but the "green" on the branch overpowers as well... Very nice for ISO 4000!

Very pleasing image to view particularly Arts repost with the bird more to the left. Detail color and background look wonderful. Great eye contact. Agree about the cut branches.

Hi Jon, you seem to nail all your visitors from your hide. I like the angled pose, the finer plumage shows up nicely, and I do like Artie's revised crop. What is your BG - camouflage netting ?

Thanks for the repost Artie - yes that is better. I have other shots at 6400 and they seem to be holding up reasonably well too.
Ann Peter agree entirely in fact I am usually the one to point out messy perches!! This was in fact not the"perch" I intended the birds to use for the very reasons you pointed lout - but I took the shot anyway It would have been easy to remove the broken part of the twig.
Stu the background is the back garden entirely natural OOF plants brackens and trees.

Simple, but effective Jon. Personally I think you could 'tweak' the WB a little more, but hey, you know me.

Agree that the stump needs to be doctored and as you mentioned, easy to do.

Very nice. Such a neat looking bird. Love the perch and that excellent background.
