Got this frame the same day as the Willet bank shot. Cloud/rain has me shut down at the moment. Grrrrrrrrr............

Some will want the front wing a bit higher, but I really like the view to the scalloped back feathers on the far wing as is.
Still need full bank of this species......stay tuned.

Another beauty Dorian. Love the colors and the water. Head on this one also looks like it could benefit from another round of minor sharpening. Are you still using surround and focusing on the body of the birds? Or have you tried zone?

I can't figure sharpening out. No matter how much I apply people always say more! Maybe it's just Lightroom.....

Both this and the Willet were taken with center point + 4 points of surround. I played around with the zone and it had
trouble tracking against the water. Sky it did better. Still need to do more testing. Fires/smoke, moving apts, and cloud
have really hampered experimentation. stay tuned......

Cool shot Dorian, I fall in the camp which prefers near wing fully raised or fully lowered. For frames parallel to the back of the camera like this one, I usually like the full down-stroke better and for the ones coming at me at an angle I like it fully up because as you mentioned we can see the topside of the far wing too. This pose is just a bit too generic....and of course banking is the best so keep trying, it should be relatively easy if the birds are still in high numbers there :)

Did I mention light and BG were both perfect.

A beauty. Yes, in a perfect world I would prefer full up or full down, but this is a handsome frame, with great light and water.

Ditto the good and bad above only to mention that that wing position is an insta-delete for me.
