Default Pine Grosbeak in Sugartime Crabapple.

That's the name of the tree, according to the plaque attached to it! Anyhow, this has been a great year for Pine Grosbeaks. The adult males are almost always absent, but two showed up one morning, and to make it even better they decided to feast on the shortest ornamental tree in the park - eye level. A fun beginning to what has been an early start to winter up here - already three weeks into snow cover!

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1250s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, just about FF, eye work to rid of extra reflections, removed one very dark "rotten" berry.

This is fantastic Daniel. Perfect shot of this species for me. The color palette, the pose, the berries and getting a male at eye level are all top notch. Congrats man. If weather holds up you may see me this weekend...

Yes, this is a wonderful frame of this bird. The OOF berries through the background are perfect.

Excellent shot Dan colours and detail super. Did you take any more a tad smaller in the frame - just wondering how big that bunch of berries is that he is perched on, the background is muted so I think it would look possibly even better??

I like the pose, composition, IQ, details and that complimentary BG is perfect.

I have no idea how you get so much DOF with the settings you post..
    Terrific work as usual.

Because Dan is using a crop factor body, he is farther away from the bird than one would be to get the same subject size in the frame. Because of the greater sensor to subject distance, d-o-f is greater than what we might expect.
