I made this image in St George UT couple of weeks back.

I love the fall colors reflections which made for nice background colors. There was deck near the pond and it help me get these reflection.

I do wish for better position of the Bird.

    Hope you like it.

    Nikon D500, 500 f/4 + 1.7x TCII
    ISO 1000, f/6.7, 1/3200 sec
    Matrix Metering, Manual Mode

I cropped the image tightly as I clipped the tail. As he came in close I did not have chance to take off/ change Teleconverter.

    Post processing:-
C1P, Photoshop CS6, Neat Image and Nik 30-30 Filter
    Tonal changes using TK Actions.

    Hope you like it.

Let me know your thoughts and comments.

    Thanks

The light, color, and exposure on the whites are great, but the crop - not fully body nor a proper headshot - doesn't feel quite right. If you have the resolution, I'd lose some of the body and crop
into the head more. The reflection and water are cool, so you're going to want to keep those. Curious what others might suggest.

Dorian's crop would work. I'd go the other way and include more of the body so as to include all of the crescent of white feathers on the side with a small border. Water, REFL, EXP, and SH are all great.

Here is the repost with cropping in Tight...

I thought image quality will suffer if I cropped it tight.

Let me know how it looks.

    Thanks

I love, love the color and texture in the water but am not loving the crop.
I think this crop would have worked if you had been lower. Buy some waders and get in the water!!
    Exposure and IQ are topnotch.

I love the water and it compliments the bird really well. Gail is correct, the steep shooting angle is not ideal for ducks and I think that is what is wrong with the shot. Image seems a bit bright to me.

Sorry guys and gals, but I would not call the shooting angle here steep by any means. And with colorful reflections, sometimes being a bit higher will yield more of the patterns in the water. I still do not like the crop and as in my first comment, I think that there is a better one available.

The problem for me with the shooting angle is that the water was too choppy and this the reflection is not mirrorlike. In a situation with glassy water I would purposely shoot sitting instead of lying down. However here the reflection is a bit messy and I think a lower shooting angle would make a stronger image. The water would be georgous either way although a lower shooting angle would surely lose some of those patterns.
