    Default Pine Siskin

    Attached Images Attached Images

I have been spending lots of time photographing finches that were in my area for a couple of weeks. Most of them have moved on but I am left with hundreds of images of them. This Pine Siskin was photographed on Staten Island, NY while it fed on some dried up flowers. The fall foliage has made for some beautiful backgrounds and I made most of my images with orange, pink or red backgrounds which are so difficult to come by at any other time of the year. While I have many photos of them with traditional poses and perfect head angles, I like this one for it's simplicity and the lines created from the curves of the stem and the curves of the bird.

Canon 1dx2 and Canon 500 f4 i + 1.4x iii. ISO 1600, f6.3, 1/800. Shot vertical to include much of the flower and to keep the bird higher in the frame.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone...

Fantastic work here Isaac image quality couldn't be any better. It's simple and tastefully artsy. Love the pose of the pine Siskin atop the faded flower stalk, and the BG that is so unique. This image has it all!

The flowers and BKGR rock. My only wish is that the head were separated a bit from the flower/plant. All in all it is an exquisitely simple yet beautiful frame.

Did you set up the flower perch?

Wonderful. This is crazy nice honestly. A perfect siskin image. The amount of work you put into your shots is impressive.

Excellent image Isaac! Great perch, pose and composition. The color of the BG really adds to this high quality image. You must have been happy when you captured this frame.

This and the VB from last week are probably my favorite frames from you. The perch and BG here are stunning. Did you buy another DX2 or is that a loaner as well?

Thanks everyone. I really had a bunch of fun shooting these birds and trying new things. Dorian I bought a used 1dx2 from someone we both know well who switched to Nikon

I am starting to shop used DX/DX2 right now. I'm headed to NZ in March for 18 days and will be doing a lot of pelagic flight work.
While I get a lot of cracks at my local shorebirds, I want to crush what limited opportunities I'll have while I'm down there. I think
either of those bodies will help towards that end.

That sounds amazing Dorian. Should be somewhat easy to find a deal. Speaking of the cameras have you shot in zone yet for flight? Thoughts?
