This was taken last week in Panama. The Motmot would appear every morning before sunrise. This low light image is the result of one of these early encounters. I cloned out some leaves above and a branch sticking out on the lower part of the perch in front of the bird. Hope you enjoy the image.

Hi Jim, great bird, pose, perch and BG, so complimentary. There are so good details and then areas such as top and back of head that the detail fades. I really like the colors, soft light, red eye and especially the tail feathers. Very enjoyable TFS
Beautiful bird, perfect HA for this over-the-shoulder pose, and a nice perch and BKRG. Was this at Canopy Lodge or Canopy Tower?
Was it at a feeder set-up?

Thanks Ann and Arthur for your comments and observations. This was taken at Playa Ensenada near Coronado on the Pacific coast. I could see the Motmot flying to the ground to grab insects and then perch. I would follow him around for 15 to 20 minutes hoping for a decent perch and BG. I was looking up some birds for identification and came across some of your images from 2008 from Panama which were very nice!. Looking at the image again I believe it has a green cast to it that I will have to fix.

Pretty shot of a beautiful bird. This over the shoulder look back pose is my favorite pose for song birds. As mentioned already the yellow and green channels are over saturated by least 25 points. I think the colors are a bit thin as well and the colors are not as vibrant as they should be on a motmot. I have seen this species many times over the years. Plus I would apply some extra sharpening to the head as it looks a touch soft to me. Maybe run Arties 30/30 Nik recipe on the head to try and eke out a bit more detail, or apply some more selective sharpening.
