    Default THEME: young sentry

Taken off road near South Padre Island, Texas. There was a family of lark sparrows and this juvenile was on guard as his parent was watching (out of frame) out for him. I'm not sure about this plant but my guess is some kind of native agave. This was taken in the evening as the sun was going down. removed some white wash.

I really love this composition and image overall. Maybe more off the top would make it even stronger. TFS

Love the perch here. Small in the frame works very well too. All the green is great.

This is a very clever and creative image. The whole image looks a touch pink (I think!), so maybe give that a look.

Also this, is a Clay-colored Sparrow, but that doesn't change the shot!

ps: why do you say "family"? Does this species breed in Texas?

Hi Artie, There were several adult Lark Sparrows and a few juveniles close together sitting on top of these plants. I assumed the"younger" ones were juveniles, however, Dorian posts that it is a clay colored sparrow, so they may foil the "family" I assumed. Yes Lark Sparrows are year round residents in most of Texas

Thanks Dorian, it s a bit pink, I thought the golden light may have contributed to that... Thanks for the ID, appreciate it.

Thanks Ann. I thought that something looked fishy. I should have noticed the white malar (?) stripe and more ...

I like this Ann...It is so different. Even though the bird is small in frame my eye was drawn immediately to it.
