I spent the morning at 1120mm with both canon version 2 tcs. The camera only recognized the 2x and had the glass at f8 (actually f11). The AF once again worked fine for f11 glass.

Funny you should say that. I'm hoping to get to the west coast tomorrow morning. I love that white sand as a reflector on shorebird shots. I was hunting mangrove cuckoos down near homestead when these birds of a different feather showed up. I did spot a cuckoo, but he wouldn't cooperate. I know this is cheating as they fly at a constant speed and not erratically and easy BG, but every frame was sharp (about 40 on different passes) and when the AF area fell off momentarily it handled it and gave me time to get back on.

Sure is sharp. Good portrait. The 2.0 x III and 1.4 x III won't click together which is a pity. Jets are good too, second from bottom is set up slightly differently to the others.

Awesome portrait with that dark background. I love the two drops on the lores. Perhaps it was the resizing, but I feel the fine details on the face's feathers could be sharper, but hard to say for sure why. Can you confirm the ISO is not a typo?

Yes Daniel, that's ISO 8000(double checked). I figured I needed it since I was hand holding 1120mm. I was actually surprised how sharp the images from this morning were. I expected them all to be soft with this old glass. These beauties have real good control over tucking in or flaring those feathers. I have imaged many of these in all states. This one was just hunting in the water and flew up to a pond apple as I approached. I think it could be a combination of being wet and tucked in tight. BTW, the only noise reduction was in DPP using arash's values for chrominance and luminance noise for the 5dmk4 sensor at ISO 8000. It wasn't really needed as the BG was already deep in shadows and i tugged the shadow slider(DPP) a little so it would go all dark. The bird had the morning sun right on the face and i pulled the histogram right up to the right side before pulling the trigger(it was right there in the viewfinder on the EVF). So, no noise on the bird to speak of.
Yes, Colin the version 2 do fit together with no extension tube needed, but only when the 1.4 goes to the camera body first and I did read where the body won't see the 1.4. Also, I think the thunderbird (USAF) jets have blank ordinance on the wings and the one jet had one that wasn't painted white. It's there though if you look closely.
