Hi Jay, a nice encounter, but the PP looks a bit off creating a very 'grainy' appearance, is it due to the ISO?

    Indeed a nice moment Jay.
I agree with Steve, quality looks off. I think you could have gained some ISO here by going for a slightly slower SS (1/800 might have been sufficient).
Besides the grainy look, I note a cyan cast on the cats.

Love the interaction here Jay, especially the cub looking at you, however apart from the ISO quality and cyan cast, another issue is the obvious dodging/halo areas around the two sub adults,

I'm wondering if these are the same four I was documenting last season around Ndutu Jay?

Lovely moment captured, Jay. We can almost tell by those expressive eyes what each one is thinking. Agree with observations above.

Really like the pose on the left two. The overall scene is really nice.

Hi Steve, I was fooled by onlibe reviews of Tamron 70-200 mm. In the low light conditions and combined with D500, IQ is poor.

Hi Morkel, you are right about SS. But on my previous trip for tigers, I shot most images at 1/500 mm and it was not enough. So on this trip I was shooting at high SS and pushing ISO. But all this as you can imagine, happened rather fast so no time to change SS between the shots.

Hi Marc, I think what you are referring to is sloppy vignette. This was shot at Samburu in August 2018. If you were there, it would be the same family.

Hi Jay - A lovely moment with the cheetah family but I agree with the others about the issues. I'm not sure it is the vignette as the lighter/halo type area is apparent around the family of cheetah and looks like it came from masking with perhaps too big a feathered area. The cyan cast is strong but an easy fix. I would suggest concentrating on the basics of pp before introducing things like vignettes into your workflow.

Agree with all the comments above...I would be interesting to see the original RAW, this would give us an idea of what you were working with.

    Dear Jay,

Wonderful interaction between those cheetahs, lovely behavioural scene. Framing is great and pose from the subjects is superb.

Regarding image quality, I think the main issue lies with the camera - the D500 does not perform well at high ISO.

The colour cast you can fix in PSCC, maybe worth spending some time to reprocess? Simple steps, and please keep in mind - less is more

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
