Here John getting lower may have engaged more, the Bull appears sharp with a good rack, however the female's head has some movement, so you needed more SS. Would have like to have seen this with a bit more of an interesting environment.

Steve made some good points - on the one hand the uniform surrounds is a pleasing element, and on the other hand the "lawn" looks very "manicured", was this on someone's ranch land?
Not always possible to get lower, I know.

Hi John - Good interaction and I agree with Steve about the ss. The grass field is what it is and these elk are one of the species that are natural lawn mowers so with grass as a staple of their diet, they are often in fields like this.
