Early morning on the hills near to my hometown. It was all about knowing where these birds hang out and getting down low in amongst the heather, like these birds do, and awaiting my opportunity.

Hi Will, It is a striking dramatic head shot, love the colors and the red comb. Nice and sharp where it counts. There is a bit of black halo on the right shoulder/body that pulls my eye. Sweet BG!

I was wondering when another of these handsome fellas was going to show up! You always get incredible images of these birds. The background and the overall colour palette are excellent, no extraneous detail to distract the viewer's eye, and it complements the bird's plumage beautifully. Maybe there is a touch more detail to bring out in the white eye ring but other than that, you've nailed it! Re: the black halo at bottom right, I think that might just be an artifact from the smaller file.

You kill it with these grouse. The detail and sharpness is spot on. Excellent background.

Perfect head angle, image design, and a killer BKRG. I'd love to see the exact same shot in cloudy-bright conditions ...

Every photo you have posted of these grouse has been great. This one included. Love the soft feather details and color palette. Super job!
