Default Black-bellied Plover (and some Red Sox WS humor)

OK, let's start with the serious stuff. I grabbed this on SF bay very late this afternoon. My last post of this species
was in the downstroke; here - in the upstroke - we can see the black axillary (i.e. armpit) feathers that easily
distinguish the species from American and Pacific Golden-Plovers.

Canon 600mm f/4 IS II on EOS 5D Mark IV
    1/4000 at f/5.6, ISO 320
Processed in LR CC. Cloned out a tiny sliver of shadow that the front wing cast onto the upper back.

    All C+C welcome!

Now for the fun stuff. 10 years ago to the day (Oct 29, 2008), I met my wife in a Red Sox theme bar in NYC.
Baseball has been a big part of out relationship ever since, and we've cheered on the Red Sox wherever around the
country we've moved. So, yesterday Sonia was returning to California after 2 weeks in Ireland/England. Her flight plan
took her London > LAX > SFO. When the Red Sox won Game 4 on Saturday to go up 3-1 on the Dodgers in
the World Series, I bought 2 tickets to Sunday's Game 5 and drove to LA where Sonia's first flight was scheduled
to land at 2pm. While driving to LA yesterday morning, I sent her a text saying "Important - call me the instant
you land". She landed, freaked-out, and called me to see what was wrong. I told her, "Don't get onto your connection,
get in an Uber/Lyft and go straight to Dodger Stadium. We have tickets to tonight's game. The Red Sox can win
it all!" Needless so say, she was really, really stoked. The Red Sox held up their end of things, so we we able to
celebrate out our 10-year anniversary (we don't really care about the marriage date) in the best way. This is not
something special for Halloween. It's how we attend every game.....

Baseball, wife, and a bit of photography. A good weekend!

The Plover, looks awesome to my eye. The other two birds, sublime (may have over saturated the reds 😉 ...) Great story and Happy Anniversary (whenever it may be...)

Only viewing on the phone but this looks fantastic Dorian. Details, light and pose are great. You’re nailing shots with the 5d4 that I haven’t seen other people get. Very impressive and that speaks to your great skills as a photographer.

And congrats re the Sox. They were the best team from wire to wire and it showed. My Yankees had many chances to beat them but couldn’t come through in the clutch. You guys did and deserve the win.

That shorebird spot sure is good for you guys. Another beautiful frame with lots of great details and colors. Sun angle is perfect. I need to get up there and shoot with you guys. Looks like you and your wife sure have fun at the games. Talk to you soon.

What? You don't cheer for the Orioles, or Cardinals, or Blue Jays? What kind of birder are you? Seriously though, congrats to the Red Sox, and a fun story!!

The plover looks great. Having the wings raised higher would have been too much to ask for, but a solid frame.

The image is spectacularly sharp with a great view of the axillaries. Ditto Dan on wishing for the wings fully up. Pulling the curve up a bit might help. Mazel tov on the WS victory and the anniversary.

    with love, artie
