Hi Geoffrey, for me that's a very nice image, not only of the bird but in its environment as well. I'm glad you kept the overall tonality low, which gives exactly the feel of an on-sunset moment, particularly with the lighter warm tones on the bird as it caught the last rays. Depth of focus is just right, with a good amount of detail still present in the background wave. Good timing too, with the wave caught just at the right moment and the bird lifting one foot at the same time. I could look at this image a lot, it has a great harmony to it.
    Cheers, David

I like the mood of this one as well. Details are nice and the pose is interesting. Wish the head was turned just a touch more to our left. Also this is a winter plumaged Willet and not a Red Knot. Knots are smaller with shorter beaks, have streaked chests and flanks and greenish legs.

I stand corrected. In the back of my mind I was thinking it's quite tall, and a Knot is shorter with darker legs. I did check Sibley and if I had known the shore birds better, this guy would have jumped off the page. Thanks Isaac.

The light looks nice and i like the beach environment as well. I could see this cropped tighter.

I really the like the concept of this image, but there isn't quite enough contrast between the bird and surroundings. The side lighting could have been really dramatic if it had lit the bird just a bird more. As it it now he blends into the background a bit.

Late light or not, lifting the curve would improve this one.
